Following your morning meal, your expert safari guide will collect you from your accommodation to kick off your adventure to Tarangire National Park. Originating in 1970 from a former colonial hunting area, Tarangire has transformed into one of Tanzania's well-kept secrets, covering an expanse roughly equivalent to the size of Luxembourg. The reserve is famous for its vast elephant populations, some of the largest in the northern region of Tanzania, and a diverse array of other animals, including zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, buffaloes, and, if you're fortunate, top predators like lions, cheetahs, and leopards. The terrain features a striking blend of grasslands, temporary marshes, and iconic baobab trees, especially concentrated in the park's northeast corner, setting a remarkable scene for your wildlife expedition. After a full day of observing wildlife, you'll rest for the evening at a campsite nestled within the park, surrounded by the serenades of the African wilderness.
Following an early morning meal, we will embark on our journey to the Ngorongoro Crater. En route, you will travel past the quaint town of Mto wa Mbu and soon catch sight of Lake Manyara. As we pass through the charming town of Karatu, the drive will lead us up the steep inclines of the East African Rift Valley into the elevated lands of the Ngorongoro Crater. Subsequently, the route descends around 600 meters into the crater, which boasts a diameter ranging from 17 to 21 kilometers and is teeming with a diverse array of wildlife. Nearly all the fauna of the East African plains can be found here, except for giraffes and a few other species that find the rugged rock formations too challenging to inhabit. Depending on the time of year, between 15,000 to 25,000 animals congregate in the area, with over two-thirds comprising buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles. This significant population of herbivores also explains why the crater is home to the highest concentration of predators in Africa. Among these predators, more than 100 lions reside, forming multiple prides within the region.
Following your morning meal, you will embark on a journey towards Lake Manyara National Park, a picturesque treasure nestled at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park derives its name from the shallow, alkaline lake it surrounds, attracting numerous waterbirds and offering a stunning backdrop for observing wildlife. Noteworthy sightings include the vibrant pink flamingos that adorn the shores, along with a variety of other avian species like cormorants, pelicans, and storks. With a recorded count of over 400 bird varieties, the park proves to be a haven for bird enthusiasts. Lake Manyara is renowned for its elusive tree-climbing lions, often spotted in the central, open plains of the park. While on your game drive, you may also come across elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, and hippos. As the day draws to a close, filled with remarkable wildlife encounters, you will commence your return journey to Arusha, carrying cherished memories and captivating safari snapshots.
