Following breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel in Moshi and driven to the Lemosho gate at an altitude of 2100m/6889ft, situated on the western side of Kilimanjaro. Upon completing the registration process, our ascent will commence as we trek through the Lemosho glades towards the Mti Mkubwa Big Tree camp at 2650m/8,694ft, where we will be spending the night. The distance covered will be 6km/4 miles, taking approximately 2-3 hours of walking through the Rainforest Zone.
Today, we will embark on a journey through a plateau adorned with heather and volcanic rock formations. Our destination is the Shira 1 Camp, situated at 3550m/11,646ft, offering breathtaking views of the Kibo peak. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to acclimate to the altitude as we trek through the heather and moorland zones. Take in the stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains before reaching the Shira 1 Camp on Kilimanjaro. The distance covered will be 8km / 5 miles, with a walking time of 6-7 hours, in the habitat of heather and moorland.
Day 3 offers a unique opportunity to marvel at the Northern Icefields and take in stunning vistas of Kibo. As we trek through the moorland terrain, not only will this aid in acclimatization, but it will also provide a chance to soak in the breathtaking panoramic scenery. Our goal for today is to make it to the Shira 2 camp at an elevation of 3840m/12,598ft. After reaching the camp, a delicious dinner awaits followed by an overnight stay. Traverse through the moorland, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude, all while relishing the sweeping views of Kibo Peak. The distance covered today is 8km/5 miles, with a walking time of 4-5 hours through the enchanting habitats of heather and moorland.
Begin your adventure with breathtaking panoramic vistas and the opportunity to traverse through the upland desert and across the lava ridges. Your journey will lead you to the renowned Lava Tower at an elevation of 4550m/ 14,927ft, where a delightful lunch awaits. Later in the day, you will descend to the Baranco camp at 3900m/ 12,795ft, nestled at the foot of the majestic Great Barranco Valley. Experience a hike to the Lava Tower for its stunning views, followed by a descent into the Barranco Valley, culminating in your arrival at Barranco Camp on Kilimanjaro. Covering a distance of 11km/6 miles, this leg of the trek will take approximately 5-7 hours to complete, showcasing the unique habitat of the Alpine Desert.
Day 6 of the itinerary involves descending to the picturesque Great Barranco area, followed by an ascent up the imposing Great Barranco wall. Climbing over the rocky terrain will be both lengthy and demanding. Next, the journey continues towards the serene Karanga Valley, leading to the night's accommodation at Karanga Camp, located at an elevation of 4100m/13,451ft. The day's trek includes a descent into the Great Barranco, a challenging climb up the Barranco Wall, and finally reaching Karanga Camp on Mount Kilimanjaro. The distance covered is approximately 5km/3 miles, with a walking time of 4-5 hours through the unique Alpine Desert habitat.
Following your morning meal, you embark on a trek to Barafu camp, where you will face the challenging ascent. Upon reaching Barafu camp at an elevation of 4600m/15,091ft, we will have lunch and rest in preparation for a demanding night ahead. An early dinner is followed by a rest to ensure we are ready to awaken between 11 pm and 12 am to begin the final climb to the summit. The journey involves a steep hike to Barafu Camp, where we will acclimatize before the summit push. A short distance of 4km / 2 miles will take around 3-4 hours to cover in the Alpine Desert habitat.
Embark on a journey towards the summit glaciers and bask in the breathtaking altitude after 5 to 6 hours of trekking. From this vantage point, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring vistas. As you crest the crater rim at Stella Point, standing tall at 5735m/ 18,815ft, the icy cliffs encircling the crater will come into view. Following a few more hours of hiking, you'll finally reach the pinnacle: Uhuru Peak at 5895m/19,340ft. Descend back to Stella Point before returning to Barafu Camp for a hearty breakfast. After a brief respite, continue your descent to Mweka Camp at 3100m/10,170ft for an overnight stay. The summit push typically commences around midnight, culminating in reaching Stella Point on Kilimanjaro (5735m), then onto the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak on Kilimanjaro (5895m). Descend to Mweka Camp Kilimanjaro to complete the trek. Covering a distance of 13km / 8 miles and spanning a walking time of 11-14 hours, this leg of the journey traverses the Summit Zone habitat.
Next on the agenda is a journey to Mweka Gate at an altitude of 1650 meters (5,413 feet), where we will wrap up all necessary procedures and collect certificates. Following that, we will return to the hotel in Moshi as directed. Thus concludes the 8-day adventure along the Lemosho route. We will descend to Mweka Gate at Kilimanjaro (1650m), finalize departure formalities, and acquire your summit certificate before heading back to your accommodation in Moshi.
